Billy is a passionate and committed piano teacher and has taught at institutions such as the Royal Irish Academy of Music and TU Dublin Conservatoire. Billy is experienced in teaching highly motivated students, and he has had many student successes in his early teaching career. Billy also has experience as examiner and adjudicator. Billy completed his undergraduate studies as a student of Therese Fahy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, graduating with First Class Honours and receiving the Maura Teissier award for further study. He then commenced postgraduate study at the Rueil Malmaison Conservatoire, Paris, under renowned pedagogue Rena Shereshevskaya, where he was awarded a Prix de Perfectionnement in Piano and Chamber Music, receiving the highest marks in piano. In 2022 Billy completed a doctoral degree in piano performance at Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. His doctoral thesis explored the integration of scholar and performer knowledge in Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs, and is available here.

Billy has had the benefit of participating in masterclasses, for both solo repertoire and chamber music, with a number of eminent pianists. These include Christopher Elton, Evelyne Brancart, Fali Pavri, Ronan O’Hora, Leon McCawley, Pavel Nersessian, John O’Conor, Roy Howat, Phillipe Cassard, Sergei Schepkin,  Miceal O’Rourke, Murray McLachlan, Cedric Tiberghien, Hilary Coates, Finghin Collins, Robert Kulek & Chia Chou.
